IN BRIEF

Kundali matching is a traditional compatibility practice in which two birth charts are compared using astrological factors. Families may use it as one source of reflection, but it cannot determine whether a relationship will succeed or replace the couple's own conversations and consent.

What is compared?

In common Vedic astrology practice, matching may compare chart factors associated with temperament, timing and traditional compatibility systems. The method and emphasis can vary between practitioners, so ask what is included and how the result will be explained.

Birth date, time and place are commonly requested for each person. If either time is uncertain, tell the astrologer rather than treating an estimate as exact.

Questions worth asking

A useful consultation should leave room for questions, not just a score or a yes/no answer. You may ask:

  • Which matching method is being used?
  • How does an uncertain birth time affect the reading?
  • What does the interpretation mean in everyday terms?
  • Are there other traditional or practical factors I should understand?

Keep the couple at the centre

Marriage decisions involve values, communication, respect, safety, shared expectations and the free consent of both people. A chart cannot assess all of these. Use a traditional reading as one perspective if it is meaningful to you, and make space for the people in the relationship to decide for themselves.

No astrologer can guarantee that a match will result in a happy marriage. Avoid anyone who pressures you into a decision or an expensive remedy by using fear.
